Vat Savitri Puja was celebrated with great pomp in Lohardaga, married women kept fast for long life of their husbands

 

Lohardaga: Vat Savitri festival was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm in urban and rural areas of the district. Women who reached the temple after adorning themselves like brides completed this fast with rituals. After the puja, married women also heard the story of Satyavan and Savitri. There was a crowd of married women in the temples of the city and under the Vat tree since morning. There is a mythological belief that this tree has many hanging branches, which are considered to be the form of Goddess Savitri. Due to Shani Jayanti on this day, the importance of the fast increased even more. According to beliefs, Vat Savitri fast was observed by Savitri to bring her husband back to life. Since then women observe this fast. On this day, there is a ritual of offering Sapta Dhanya wheat, barley, sesame, Kangni, Shyamak, Dev Dhanya in a bamboo basket. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the newly married women for the Vat Savitri fast. There was a crowd of married women since morning to worship the Vat tree. There was a crowd of married women in many temples including the streets and localities of the city. Apart from the Vat tree in the southern and northern areas of Thakurain pond of the city, worship was done at many places including Bauli Baghicha Durga Temple, Mission Chowk Vat tree, Vat tree located at Bakshidipa ground, Maina Baghicha market. Married women adorned with new sarees and jewellery with sixteen adornments worshipped the Vat tree with full rituals. Throughout the day, women well-dressed were seen worshipping under the Banyan tree at all places. Also, shops in the market were decorated with worship material for the worship. Crowds of women were seen shopping in shops selling fruits, clothes and worship material.
