Kerala: A suspected case of Nipah virus was found in Mallapuram, Kerala on Saturday. A 14-year-old boy has been found infected with this virus. He is currently admitted to a hospital. After the case came to light, the Health Ministry called a high-level meeting. In this meeting, Health Minister Veena George discussed with the officials the measures to prevent a possible outbreak of the virus. Veena George said that we are waiting for the boy's test report to come. The boy's samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for testing for Nipah virus. Nipah virus cases have been reported in Kerala before. Nipah cases were reported in the state in the years 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023. Nipah virus infection has also occurred in Bengal.
