Commemoration of 196th Birth Anniversary of Yogavatar Lahiri Mahasaya at Yogda Ashram

Ranchi: The commemoration of the birth anniversary of Lahiri Mahasaya was celebrated in an atmosphere of joy and gaiety. The commemoration began with a special online mass meditation conducted by Swami Swaroopanand in the morning, which was attended by devotees from all over India. After this, devotees present in Guru Puja from 9:30 am to 11:30 am enjoyed bhajans conducted by Swami Amarananda and other sanyasis. After the bhajan-sankirtan, prasad was distributed to the devotees and sanyasis present there.

Yogavatar Lahiri Mahasaya, one of the supreme gurus of the Yogda Satsang tradition, was a disciple of the great immortal yogi Mahavatar Babaji of the Himalayas. Mahavatar Babaji taught Lahiri Mahasaya the ancient almost-lost science of Kriya Yoga and instructed him to initiate all true seekers. An important feature of Lahiri Mahasaya's life was that he gave Kriya initiation to spiritual seekers of all religions, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian. He was a householder-yogi who lived a balanced and disciplined life of devotion and meditation while fulfilling all his family responsibilities and social duties. He became a source of inspiration for thousands of men and women living a worldly life in the society. He kindled a new ray of hope in the hearts of the downtrodden. Though he himself belonged to the highest Brahmin caste, he took bold steps towards breaking the rigid caste system of his time. The celebration of this special day ended with a 3-hour meditation in the evening, where Brahmachari Ektavananda read out some of the anecdotes and teachings of Lahiri Mahasaya.
