Ranchi: After the approval of the Union Cabinet under Phase III of private FM radio, a meeting of the officials of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the members of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce was held in the Chamber Bhawan to create awareness for e-auction in the process of starting 730 channels in 234 new cities across the country.

In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Chamber General Secretary Aditya Malhotra, the officials informed through PPT that the Ministry has approved the starting of private FM radio channels for 234 new cities/towns across the country. In this, e-auction will be done to start 3 FM radio channels in Bokaro, Jharkhand, 3 in Deoghar, 4 in Dhanbad, 3 in Giridih, 3 in Hazaribagh and 3 in Medininagar. The application process for the auction has started from October 14. The last date to apply is November 18. Only companies registered under the Companies Act 2013 or 1956 are eligible to apply.

General Secretary Aditya Malhotra said that the launch of private FM radio in 234 new cities/towns across the country will meet the unfulfilled demand for FM radio in these cities which are still untouched by private FM radio broadcasting. Joint Secretaries Vikas Vijayvargiya and Navjot Alang said that many of the approved cities/towns are aspirational districts and Left Wing Extremism affected areas. The establishment of private FM radio in these areas will further strengthen the government's reach in these areas. Our effort will be to involve the stakeholders of Jharkhand in the e-auction process. He assured the officials that the Chamber will inform all its District Chambers of Commerce and Regional Vice Presidents about this initiative of the Ministry and through them FM radio channels will be started in Bokaro, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Hazaribagh and Medininagar.
